Derek Sieg - IHSA Volleyball Official of the Year

Congratulations to Derek Sieg, BNOA VP-Volleyball, for his selection by the IHSA as Official of the Year for Volleyball. Derek is a long time official, with officiating experience in basketball and football over the years in addition to volleyball. Derek is a recent state finals official in girls basketball and a past president of our Association.

To be considered for this honor, an official must first be nominated by an Officials Association recognized by the IHSA or by an IHSA administrator. IHSA staff members then vote on the winners based on factors such as character, skill as an official, and levels worked in the IHSA State Series. The BNOA Executive Committee nominated Derek for this award.

This year’s winners will be recognized during the 2026 IHSA Officials Conference, which will be held July 10-11 in Normal, Illinois - more details to follow on this event.

Derek, congratulations on this award and thanks for all you do for Officiating, our Association and the IHSA!
